Frequently Ask Questions

What makes Advanced Photo & Imaging different from other online photo restoration services?2025-05-01T13:29:55+00:00

Advanced Photo & Imaging has been in business since 1980.  We are professional photographers offering a full range of photographic services.  Unlike other companies with a laptop and some basic knowledge our restoration specialists have years of experience in all aspects of photography.  We are very proud of each photograph that we restore, producing images to our client’s highly demanding requirements.  Our market is those clients who desire a magnificently restored photograph that can be shared with family or showcased in a prominent location in their home or office.

What Images can be restored?2025-05-01T13:30:00+00:00

Almost any photograph – old, damaged, faded and even blurry.  We can restore discoloured, sun bleached, torn, cracked, and water damaged photos. Our specialists have restored photographs that are damaged by mold, fire, tape and stuck behind glass.

How do you restore a photograph?2025-05-01T13:30:04+00:00

The original image is first scanned at an extremely high resolution. Then our restoration specialists use sophisticated computer software to manipulate the individual pixels that make up the image In order to repair the damage. The higher the resolution of the scan the better the result we achieve with a restoration.

Why do you need to know the dimensions of the original image?2025-05-01T13:30:08+00:00

The size gives us an indication of the resolution and degree of detail that we have to work with.  This indicates the potential output quality and the amount of time that will be required to restore the photo to it’s original glory.

Why do you require a decent quality image to prepare an estimate?2025-05-01T13:30:11+00:00

The cost of the restoration is a function of the amount of time our skilled restoration specialists will invest in your image.  The more detail we are able to see from your original the better we are able to estimate the cost of your restoration.

Why do you require us to send you the original image?2025-05-01T13:30:17+00:00

The quality of the final product is a function of the scan of the original image.  Before we begin the actual restoration we scan/photograph your original at a very high resolution.  This enables us to work on minute details of the restoration blending colors and shades to restore damage and remove blemishes.

An office scanner or a photograph with a phone camera of the original will not provide a high enough resolution and therefore an inferior outcome.  Don’t be fooled by online companies promising a great result from an iPhone photo for $35.  Your final product is only as good as the image you scanned.

How safe is it to send you my original photograph?2025-05-01T13:30:20+00:00

We request that you send us the original, preferably via Fedex or UPS, as that you will be able to track it all the way to our doorstep.  Advanced Photo & Imaging is not a big, automated processing facility and each image we receive is handled with love and care as if it were our own family heirloom.

The original and the restored image(s) will be carefully packed and mailed back to you with a secure tracking service.

How long does the restoration process take?2025-05-01T13:30:23+00:00

Restoring a photograph to it’s original glory is a work of art and should not be rushed.  We are very proud of our work.  The process will depend on the size of the original image, the amount of damage and the overall complexity of the restoration.  Normally we can get you a proof of the restored image within a week from receipt of the original.  We will work with you, making changes and tweaking the proof, until you are satisfied with the results.

How do you determine the cost of the restoration?2025-05-01T13:30:27+00:00

The cost is a function of the time that our restoration specialists invest in your photograph.  Before you send us your original, based on the image that you have provided and the size of the original we will provide you with an initial estimated cost.  Once we have the original in our studio we will finalize this estimate and send you a firm quote.  We guarantee that the final restoration cost will not deviate by more than 15% from the estimate.

Are there any other costs?2025-05-01T13:29:48+00:00

Your final quote will include the restoration cost, interactions with one of our restoration specialists to fine tune the image, printing of your required images, a digital copy of the restored image (extra cost if requested) plus packaging and shipping of the original and the restored images.

Provided you are not deviating from your original instructions, we do not charge extra to make changes or tweaks to the proof of your restored image.

What is Photo Retouching versus Restoration?2025-05-01T13:29:42+00:00

With restorations we return a photo to it’s original glory.  With Retouching we are able to actually manipulate and change the image.  Examples can be found here.
